The Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS) presented "Generaciones excluidas: mexicano-estadounidenses, asimilación y raza", by Edward Telles and Vilma Ortiz, on 10 June at the Madrid Book Fair. A fortuitous finding was the starting point for this innovative analysis, which shows how the economic and educational progress of immigrants of Mexican origin in the United States has come to a halt in the second generation. In his presentation, Antonio Izquierdo, professor of sociology at the University of A Coruña and Director of the Research Team on Sociology of International Migration, underlined the need to reconsider our view of integration and immigration policies in light of the disheartening results of this cross-generational research. "This is a key text in fields such as stratification, ethnicity and comparative policies on the integration of immigrants and their children in Europe and the United States", asserted Izquierdo.
