• The Professor of Sociology has focused her studies on international migration dynamics and the social inclusion of ethnic minorities from a sociological perspective • She has been director of the “Centre d'Estudis i Recerca en migracions” of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, which is a reference in migration studies. Madrid, July 7, 2023. The Professor of Sociology of the Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Carlota Solé i Puig, has received the 2023 National Prize for Sociology and Political Science, after a professional and policy for more than 50 years. Graduated in Economic Sciences from the universities of Barcelona and Bilbao between 1961 and 1967, she has a PhD in Sociology from the University of Reading (England) since 1982 and in Economic Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, since 1975, and Professor. of Sociology from the Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology, of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He has worked as a teacher at both the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the Complutense University of Madrid, at the Higher School of Business Administration and Management (ESADE), or at various foreign universities such as the University of Reading or the Instituto Universitario dei Studi. Europei in Turin. In 1989 he founded the Study Group on Immigration and Ethnic Minorities (GEDIME), a center dedicated to the study of international migration dynamics, transnational practices in migration contexts and the social inclusion of ethnic minorities, from a sociological perspective. This group has been attached since its inception to the Department of Sociology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Her studies focus on modernization, immigration and business organizations, although she deals with topics such as women, nationalism and the labor market. Among his publications he has magazine articles, collaborations in collective works, reviews, books, thesis direction and coordination in other publications. She has been director of the “Centre d'Estudis i Recerca en migracions” of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, a center that is concerned with carrying out studies on migration and is considered a reference in this field. His books include, among others, “Modernization: a sociological analysis” (1976), “The sociocultural integration of immigrants in Catalonia” (1981), “Ethnic businesses: the businesses of non-EU immigrants in Catalonia” (2006). or “Immigration and citizenship” (2011). She was awarded the Mary Parker Follet Award from the American Political Science Association with her article “Language and the Construction of States: the Case of Catalonia in Spain” in 1995. Between 1994 and 2015 she directed the sociology magazine «Papers », since 1998 he has been a member of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans and since 2022 he belongs to the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences. The jury for this award, which made the decision unanimously, was made up of the president of the CIS, the Professor of Sociology, Jose Félix Tezanos Tortajada, the Professor of Sociology of the National University of Distance Education, María Rosario H. Sánchez Morales, the Professor of Sociology at the Carlos III University of Madrid and 2021 National Sociology Prize, Constanza Tobío, the Professor of Sociology at the Complutense University of Madrid and 2019 National Sociology Prize, Inés Alberdi, the Professor of Sociology at the Autonomous University of Madrid and former president of the Center for Sociological Research, Cristóbal Torres Albero, and the Professor of Sociology at the Public University of Navarra and National Sociology Award 2022, Rafael Pardo Avellaneda.

The pre-election study of the Sociological Research Center for the next general elections on July 23, shows an advantage of two tenths of the Popular Party over the PSOE in the vote estimate, which practically means a technical tie between the two main political forces. SUMAR is positioned as the third force with 16.4% of the votes, while VOX occupies fourth place with 10.6%. The PSOE is considered the party closest to its own ideas by 30% of those surveyed who give their opinion, followed by the PP with 26.7%. 33% of those surveyed who give their opinion prefer Pedro Sánchez as President of the Government. Feijóo is preferred by 30.9% and Yolanda Díaz by 20%. Pedro Sánchez, with an average 4.68, surpasses Alberto Núñez Feijóo in rating , who reaches 4.30, with Yolanda Díaz's rating being 4.70. The number of Spaniards who rate their personal economic situation as "very good or good" increases to 69.95 . 13.4% of voters have requested or plan to request voting by mail . 12.3% of voters decide which political party or coalition to vote for , either during the reflection day (6.4%) or on election day itself (5.9%). 13.8% hesitate between various parties or coalitions when voting. The ICC rebounds in May to 81.5 points The Consumer Confidence Index improves 8.5 points compared to April. All indicators are rising and the assessment index for the current situation stands at 71.5 points, almost 9 points more than last month. The assessment of future expectations reaches 91.5 points this month. Madrid, June 7, 2023 . Consumer confidence strengthens in May and rises to 81.5 points, which represents an improvement of 8.5 points compared to last month, according to the CCI carried out by the CIS every month. This increase in the index is due to the positive evolution of its two components: the assessment of the current situation grows 8.7 points compared to the month of April and the assessment of future expectations improves 8.4 points in the last month. Regarding the annual evolution, it rises 5.5 points compared to May 2022, when the CCI stood at 76 points. The assessment index of the current situation reached 71.5 points in May, with an increase of 8.7 points in relation to that obtained in April. This increase is due to the positive evolution of the evaluations of its three components: the evaluation of the current economic situation rises 12.6 points compared to last month, reaching 61.2 points, the evaluation of the situation of households grows 5 .5 points, reaching 73.7 points and the labor market assessment improves 8.1 points, reaching 79.7 points. The expectations index reaches 91.5 points this May, which represents an increase of 8.4 points compared to the month of April. This increase in the index is due to the positive evolution of all its components: the assessment of the evolution of the economy in the immediate future has an improvement of 10.3 points, reaching 84.2 points, the assessment of the future situation of households reaches 100 points, which represents an increase of 4.1 points compared to the month of April and expectations about the future of the labor market grow in this month of May to 90.2 points, gaining 10.7 points compared to the previous month. The CIS ICC data are based on a representative sample of the Spanish population of 2,838 interviews carried out between May 12 and 23. Almost 70% of Spaniards show great interest in science and technology. According to the survey on science and technology carried out by the CIS, the topics of non-polluting energy and biotechnology are what interest citizens the most. Regarding the dangers that technological advances can bring, 50.3% believe that artificial intelligence could be a problem. Madrid, June 1, 2023 . The Center for Sociological Research has carried out a survey on the perception that Spaniards have of science and technology. 68.9% of those surveyed say they are "very interested" or "fairly interested" in these topics. And, specifically, what interests those surveyed most are the topics related to non-polluting energy , 79.5% say that they are "very interested" or "quite interested" in this topic, and in second place is biotechnology , since 55.4% assure that it generates a lot of interest. Furthermore, 86.5% of Spaniards find it very interesting or quite interesting to "understand the world, how it works and the whys of things" and 84.4% find it "reading the news about new scientific discoveries." When asking respondents why they believe it is useful to have knowledge about science and technology, they say - firstly - "to take care of health and prevent diseases in our daily lives", and "to take care of the environment" secondly. Regarding science, citizens believe that the greatest usefulness it provides is to "obtain knowledge" according to 92.9% and secondly to "solve problems" (79.3%). Regarding the dangers that technological advances may bring, 50.3% believe that artificial intelligence may become a problem and 46.8% believe that nuclear energy. Despite this, 95.2% of citizens believe that, thinking about the next 20 years, the development of science and technology will bring "many or quite a few benefits." And finally, when asking those surveyed whether they would be in favor or against the country's Government having to cut public spending on science and technology, 91.3% were against this measure.
