The pre-campaign survey for the regional elections in Galicia carried out by the CIS indicates that the PP is going backwards, and could lose the absolute majority with 42.2% of the votes and obtain between 34 to 38 seats. The CIS has carried out a survey on democratic habits in Spain and how citizens perceive democracy, our political system and whether they are happy or not with it, among other issues. 89.8% of the people surveyed agree that political parties have the obligation to reach consensus on important issues that affect citizens. Only 7.4% think otherwise. When asked about some issues that have become news due to the lack of agreements between parties, 87.7% assure that it is “very or quite important” that the PSOE and the PP reach an agreement on the renewal of the General Council of the Power of attorney. 91.4% think the same about the fight against gender violence and 93.3% believe that it is “very or quite important” that they agree on fair taxation. Crispation and interest in politics 88.9% of those surveyed believe that there is “a lot or a lot” of political tension in our country. The Center for Sociological Research has carried out the monthly barometer for January with the usual questions such as the evaluation of leaders and ministers, vote estimation, the problems that most affect Spaniards and questions about international news, among other issues. In June 2023, the French sociologist Alain Touraine , considered one of the great sociologists of the 20th and 21st centuries, died in Paris at the age of 97. Touraine, who taught at different universities in France and was a visiting professor at the most prestigious international universities, is the author of numerous publications, such as “Sociology of action” (1969), “Post-industrial society” (1969), “Critique of modernity” (1994), “What is democracy” (1995), “A new paradigm to understand today's world” (2005) or some more recent ones such as “After the crisis” (2010) and “ The end of societies” (2013). His academic activity, his vision of societies, and also his personality, had a strong impact on thinkers and researchers in Europe, the United States and Latin America; region to which he dedicated a very important part of his work. The Center for Sociological Research has organized this tribute to value his legacy and the relevance of his thought, focused on; among other subjects, in the study and analysis of current societies, social movements, European values and the principles of equality and diversity as new challenges for democracies.
