This year's National Sociology and Political Science Prize has been awarded to Juan Díez Nicolás. This prize is given in recognition of scientific contribution and work in the field of Sociology or Political Science and is awarded either on the basis of a whole career or a singular work. Juan Díez Nicolás is an Emeritus Professor of Sociology at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He has a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, obtained the Outstanding Student Award - Bachelor´s Degree (1960), the National Award for Academic Excellence (1961), holds a PhD in Political Science (UCM, 1967) and is a permanent sociology Professor (1971). He was co-founder of the Spanish Institute of Public Opinion. Technical Director and General Secretary (1963-69) and Chairman of the CIS (October 1976 - April 1979). He was recently decorated as Honorary Vice-Chancellor and given an Honorary Doctorate in Political Science and Sociology by the Spanish Open University (UNED) in 2012. He is currently Chairman and Founder of FADDIS (Foundation for the Analysis and Diffusion of Social Research Data), (2009- ), Permanent Advisor on the Executive Committee of the Official Data Archive, World Values Survey Association (elected 2008- ) and an academic of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (2001- ). He has led a wealth of empirical research and is author of numerous scientific publications including: Sociology: Entre el Funcionalismo y la dialéctica (Between Functionalism and Dialectics) (1971), Especialización Funcional y Dominación en la España Urbana (Functional Specialisation and Domination in Urban Spain) (1972), Los Españoles y la Opinión Pública (The Spanish and Public Opinion) (1976), Ecología Humana y Ecosistema Social (Human Ecology and the Social Ecosystem) (1984), Sociología de la Población (Sociology of the Population) (1990), Posición Social, Información y Postmaterialismo (Social Position and Postmaterialism) (1992), Tendencias Mundiales de Cambio en los Valores Sociales y Políticos (World Trends in Changes in Social and Political Values) (1994), Actitudes Hacia los Inmigrantes (Attitudes towards Immigrants) (1998), Los Españoles y la Inmigración (The Spanish and Immigration) (1999), El Dilema de la Supervivencia (The Survival Dilemma). Los españoles ante el Medio Ambiente (The Spanish and the Environment) (2004), Multidimensional Social Science (2009), The EU and ageing populations, implications for migration flows (2011). The award-winner has been one of the main drivers of Spanish Sociology in the international forum. Friday, October 19, 2012. This year's National Prize for Sociology and Political Science has been awarded to Juan Díez Nicolás . This Award is a recognition of contribution and scientific work in the field of Sociology or Political Science and is awarded for a professional career or a singular work. Juan Díez Nicolás is an emeritus professor of sociology at the Complutense University of Madrid, with a degree in Political Science, he obtained the Extraordinary Bachelor's Award (1960), the National End of Degree Award (1961), a doctor in Political Sciences (UCM, 1967), full professor of sociology (1971). He was co-founder of the Institute of Public Opinion. Technical Director and Secretary General (1963-69) and president of the CIS (October 1976 - April 1979). He has recently been awarded as Honorary Rector and Honorary Doctor in Political Science and Sociology by the National University of Distance Education (2012). He is currently President-Founder of FADDIS (Foundation for the Analysis and Dissemination of Social Research Data), (2009-), permanent advisor as responsible for the Official Data Archive in the Executive Committee, World Values Survey Association (elected 2008- ), academic at the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (2001- ). The V CIS Summer Seminar on Sociological and Political Research , in collaboration with the Royal Complutense College associated with Harvard University, was held from September 3 to 9 and was inaugurated by the president of the CIS, Félix Requena. The seminar is part of the CIS internationalization strategy that presents the socio-political and economic reality of Spain in the most influential forums and connects Spanish social science researchers with the most prestigious researchers in the academic world. This strategy develops the legal mandate to promote scientific collaboration with university and research centers for the training of researchers in the social sciences and the holding of courses and seminars. In this context, the seminar was developed with extraordinary success and has constituted an essential intellectual debate forum for the knowledge of professors, postgraduate students and researchers of the most recent theoretical, methodological and research developments in the global sphere. of the social sciences. The seminar has had the participation of prestigious academics from the main universities in the world : Harvard, Berkeley, Boston and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology such as Professor Stanley H. Brandes, specialist in comparative cultural studies and methodology; Emilio J. Castilla, expert in human resources management and quantitative research; Aranchu Castro, expert in health policies; Patricia Craig, dedicated to the study of political transitions, institutional reforms and political systems; Roberto M. Fernández, scholar of social networks and organizations; Michele Lamont, in sociology of cultures; Peter Hall, professor of political science and public policy and Sofía Pérez in comparative politics. This year, the seminar has been coordinated by Professor Jesús M. de Miguel from the University of Barcelona.
