Descripción
This book, led by the Practical Sociological Research Committee of the Spanish Federation of Sociology, presents a set of examples (in the form of chapters) designed to show how the use of sociological knowledge can be useful for problem-solving in specific situations through research, consulting, or expert advice, and within a wide range of organizations. It also includes good professional and communication practices that have contributed to the consolidation of sociology in today's professional world and that other professionals can use as a starting point. It is structured in three sections: the first presents examples of how sociology has helped offer new theoretical or methodological perspectives and solve problems in the field of social services and the third sector; the second section reflects on the identity of sociologists and on the new knowledge and skills that would help consolidate the profession in today's competitive labor market. Finally, a third block compiles best practices in the field of disseminating sociological knowledge and serves as a guide for those who are about to delve into the exciting field of communicating their work and research results.
Addressing sociological practice as this work does was a long-overdue contribution, because there is a need to make visible in academic publications how sociology can generate useful knowledge for problem-solving in diverse organizations and fields of activity. Therefore, as the renowned Luis Enrique Alonso, Professor of Sociology at the Autonomous University of Madrid, mentions in the prologue, "this mosaic of concrete and grounded approaches—in the genuinely interactionist sense of the term—gives the work a special substance that distances it from both grand theory and abstract empiricism, composing a particular form of sociological imagination that honors the luminous and indelible mark that C.W. Mills has left on (good) sociology."
