On the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the creation of the Institute of Public Opinion (IOP)-Centre for Sociological Research (CIS), a small part of the studies and questionnaires carried out by the institution are displayed, which together reflect the history of our country as seen through Spanish public opinion. To give an idea of the magnitude of the opinion data held by the IOP-CIS, it should be noted that in the last 30 years alone more than three million interviews have been conducted.

This historical journey shows the main tools used to carry out the first surveys, before the massive introduction of computers; such as IBM punch and card sorting machines, widely used in the 1970s to perform management, accounting and/or statistical operations.

Regarding the editorial activity of the centre, aimed at publicising the studies carried out and contributing to the development of sociology in Spain as a scientific discipline, the first issues of the Spanish Journal of Public Opinion (REOP), the Bulletin of the Institute of Public Opinion and the first published books are exhibited. A selection of the latest publications is also shown, including the work of Harriet Martineau: How to Observe Morals and Manners, translated for the first time into Spanish and considered the first methodological treatise in the history of Sociology. Altogether, an editorial work that has led the CIS to produce more than 890 publications.
