Descripción

This book systematically analyzes the various relevant aspects and dimensions of the general elections held in July 2023. It studies—with due scientific rigor—the context of the elections, the party offerings and candidate selection, the electoral campaign and its consequences, the relevance of social media to the process, the effects of the electoral system, abstention and participation, and the determining factors of the vote, paying special attention to the relevance of gender, national identities, emotions, and other current factors such as polarization, the economic situation, and the effect of leadership on electoral behavior. The book also offers a comprehensive analysis of the internal changes and electorate profiles of the main national parties or coalitions (PP, PSOE, Vox, and Sumar) and of the non-national parties (PANE). Finally, it analyzes the patterns of continuity and change within the parliamentary class after the 2023 general elections and the consequences of the electoral results for the country's governability.

The forty-one authors contributing to the book, researchers from eleven different universities, are renowned specialists in their respective substantive fields. The result is a reference work for any approach to the electoral process held in July 2023, which opened the door to a legislative term in which—once again—"a different way of doing politics" prevailed.
