The Centre for Sociological Research, an agency attached to the Ministry of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts, has published in the Official State Gazette the Resolution of April 24, 2026, which announces the 2026 National Prize for Sociology and Political Science.
The National Prize for Sociology and Political Science aims to recognize individuals who, through their academic, scientific, and professional careers, have made significant contributions to the advancement of Sociology and Political Science. The prize includes a cash award of €30,000 .
Nominations may be submitted by public or private institutions, organizations, and foundations, as well as university faculties or departments linked to the fields of Sociology and Political Science. Nominations may also be submitted jointly by at least three professors from the aforementioned disciplines, as well as by the members of the designated Jury.
The proposals must include the merits of the candidates, accredited through their research, teaching and professional career, as well as other contributions that have contributed to the development and advancement of Sociology and Political Science.
The award will be presented at a specially convened public ceremony, which will be given appropriate prominence, solemnity, and publicity. Preferably, this ceremony will take place in a location with a strong connection to the fields of Sociology and Political Science. The recipient will also receive a commemorative award.
The National Prize for Sociology and Political Science is the most prestigious award in Spain in this field. It has been granted for over twenty years and enjoys widespread recognition within the academic and professional community. This distinction acknowledges a distinguished scientific career in the fields of Sociology and Political Science. Since 2018, it has been awarded annually.
The deadline for submitting applications for the 2026 National Prize for Sociology and Political Science is May 29, 2026 .
