The Integrated Data File (IDF) is a tool that the Center for Sociological Research (CIS) makes available to its users free of charge.

The FID allows for the integrated extraction, in a single file, of microdata for a set of variables for selected CIS studies.

The interface allows the user to quickly and easily select the desired studies from a collection and, from these, the desired variables from those contained in the FID dictionary. The request is then sent to the CIS, and once the CIS approves it, the file with the selected microdata can be downloaded in ASCII or SAV format, making it simple and easy to tabulate using various statistical programs. User registration, or identification (if already registered), is required to complete a data request.

The studies included include the following collections published by the CIS:

  • Monthly barometers: since October 1985.
  • Health barometers: since 1995.
  • Public Opinion and Fiscal Policy: since 1984.
  • National Defense and Armed Forces: since 1997.
  • Consumer Confidence Index: as of November 2011.
  • Quality of Public Services: since 2006.
  • Attitudes toward immigration: since 2008.
  • Latinobarometers: since 1996.
  • Cooperation and Latin America: since 2005.
  • Youth surveys: since 2002.

Integrated data file technology is used in other statistical fields internationally. The IPUMS International (Integrated Public Use Microdata Series, International) is a large database of population census microdata from a multitude of nations, made available to the public after the necessary anonymization. This project was created and maintained by the Minnesota Population Center at the University of Minnesota, in collaboration with the statistical offices of around 80 countries. As with the IPUMS, the microdata are available through an extraction system that allows users to select the variables and studies they desire. Project information is available at: https://international.ipums.org/international
