Vice President and Minister of Finance María Jesús Montero concludes the summer course "Inequalities in Today's World."

The closing ceremony of the summer course organized by the CIS, which this year focused on inequality, was chaired by the First Vice President of the Government, María Jesús Montero, accompanied by the president of the CIS, José Félix Tezanos, and the professor of economics and member of parliament, Pedro Casares.

The Minister of Finance highlighted "the important work being done at the CIS" to learn and improve the needs of society.

Montero noted that "9 out of 10 respondents believe that governments should intervene to alleviate inequalities." She also asserted that "the societies with the greatest inequality are those with the worst democratic indicators."

Professor Pedro Casares noted that the poverty rate is high, but that "with this government, it has dropped by 6 percentage points, and that's what politics is for."

The course "Social Inequalities in Today's World" concludes after a week of presentations by specialists in diverse fields such as gender, youth, and economics. With specialists such as Professor Verónica Díaz, who addressed inequality among youth, Professor Rosario H. Sánchez discussed ageism.

Professor of Economic History Carles Manera gave a presentation on the extent of inequalities, and CIS Research Director Silvia García spoke about public perceptions of social inequality.
