Our societies have undergone significant transformations over the last three decades. These transformations have profoundly affected the meaning of work, the notion of citizenship, and the very subjectivity of workers. These changes profoundly affect the constitution of the political subject inherent to democratic modernity: the citizen. New terms and metaphors (flexibility, employability, and activation) appear in public discourse to give meaning to these changes, becoming frameworks of meaning and unquestionable evidence with which to promote adaptation to this current scenario. This panorama has given rise to a situation of confusion and crisis that demands a critical production of meaning to confront the new forms of subordination that are spreading. In this work, several Spanish and other European authors reflect, from an interdisciplinary perspective, on the scope of these changes in work and their potential impact on the political weakening of workers.
