Descripción

This book emerges from a collective investigation into the interactions between mobile telephony, gender relations, and intimate emotional bonds, as well as from connections with other proposals, works, networks, and researchers with whom the editors have met at conferences, seminars, and academic publications in various formats. Based on empirical grounding, this book analyzes how contemporary subjectivities are constitutively mediated by technological uses and practices. Drawing on sociological perspectives but without renouncing a multidisciplinary approach, it addresses how these information and communication technologies, from mobile phones to online platforms such as Flickr and YouTube, mediate and influence the interpretations (both as meanings and as staging) of our bodies, affections, and subjectivities. All of this pays special attention to the bond of the heterosexual couple, to the gender relations that unfold within it, to the re-articulation of the demarcations between the public, the private, and the intimate that are formed in this game, as well as to the controversies and convergences facilitated by these mediations.
